Children
A key to working with children is interpreting their behaviors as communication, speaking with them in respectful and developmentally appropriate ways, and providing creative avenues to access, process, and express their thoughts and feelings. These avenues typically consist of art, games, and play.
Therapy with children can often focus on:
School issues
Peer relations
Emotional intelligence
Coping tools
Social skills
Attentional challenges
Impulse control
Aggression
Bullying
Family dynamics
Attachment
Adolescents
Having one foot in the door of childhood, with the other in young adulthood, it is understandable why life as a teenager can be tough. This, coupled with the ongoing physical, emotional, hormonal, and social changes adolescents experience, it is no wonder identity development is at the heart of this time period. In therapy with teens, I strive to help them feel more heard, understood, and respected, as well as helping them be more cognizant and intentional about the life path they are on.
Therapy topics with adolescents can often include:
Self-esteem
Peer relations
Identity development
Technology and social media use
Attentional challenges
School difficulties
Motivation
Substance use
Adjustment to change
Adults… plants pot
Therapy with adults typically involves exploring significant experiences, relationships, and stressors, in addition to identifying triggers, maladaptive patterns, and more constructive responses to life events. Talking through impactful stressors and experiences can lead to catharsis, honest feedback, and feelings of support and validation.
Here are some topics I work on with adults:
Marital and relationship conflict
Work satisfaction
Self-esteem
Mindfulness
Self-care
Coping skills
Parenting stressors
Perinatal support
Grief and loss
Divorce
